Hong Kong - Medical.

Gentlemen,

Referring to the Society's letter of the 23rd January

last and the report of the Government Analyst herewith dated 5th

April 1895 I beg to submit the following remarks.

The requisition for Drugs &c issued by the Crown Agents

states that all articles are to be according to the British Phar-

macopoeia 1885, and the Society have always considered it to be

binding on them to supply only the official Pharmacopoeial prepar-

ations unless a cheaper article is specially asked for in the de-

mand, this rule has always been followed and they believe has

given satisfaction.

In dealing with the supply under Reg. No.21322 they were

careful to give the Government of Hong Kong every advantage as to quality and price, a reduction being made in several instances

for bulk quantities ordered this applies especially to half a ton

of linseed meal for which £6-15-0 was charged being less than

that quoted by the Government Analyst from the list of Messrs

Burgoyne & 00. In this article as in all others the Society did

their best to meet the requirements of the Colony, the prices

were definitely consistent with the goods supplied.

The Society notice that the Government Analyst has not ap- parently fully considered the fluctuations of the market in re- spect to certain drugs. They desire to point out that no com- plaint is made respecting the quality of goods which have been

supplied
